Dear Patients,

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I grew up in Miami, Fl and fell in love with dentistry while working my way through college at a dental office. I received my undergraduate training at Florida International University. My dental degree is from the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry, where I completed my graduation requirements eight months ahead of schedule. Upon graduation in 1992, I returned to that same office and the doctors that had helped shape my future. Over the past 19 years, due to my husband’s career, I have practiced in several locations around Florida. Our last and final move brought us to St Petersburg in 1999. After a 3 year sabbatical at home with my children, I returned to dentistry in 2002.

A year later, quite by chance, I found a wonderful career opportunity at Dr Penny’s office in St Pete Beach. I have practiced dentistry there for the past eight years. My schedule allowed me the perfect blend of career and family time.

I am very excited about this new chapter in my life and feel very blessed to have “inherited” such a spectacular staff. Angela, Brandie, Julia, and Theresa are all working with me and have made the transition so much smoother by staying two steps ahead of everything, but I don’t need to tell you how great they are. You know it better than I do!

During my professional career I have belonged to the various dental societies from the national to the county and local level. I enjoy taking continuing education courses and incorporating the latest scientific findings into the comprehensive care of my patients. Have you heard of the CO2 laser? Ask us about its many benefits at your next appointment.

I am very fortunate to have the support of my family in making St Petersburg our permanent destination. My husband, John Marks, is the General Manager at the Don CeSar. We have four great kids: Kristen 26, Danielle 24, Nicky 15, Devon 13 and a son-in-law, Colin, who we truly cherish.

What more could anyone want? Wonderful family! Great practice! Amazing staff! I know…I want to meet YOU!!! I look forward to meeting each of you at your next visit and getting to know you as we build a long-term partnership in your oral health.  If you’re not due in for a while, but are in the neighborhood, please stop in to say HELLO!!!

Rosie Márquez, DMD

Prevention Tips

We believe that every patient can have a healthy mouth for a lifetime.  Even those who are discouraged and see no hope can turn things around.  The key is to treat the problem AND its cause.  Common sense, right?  Follow these steps to reduce you dental visits.

PREVENTIVE RECOMMENDATIONS
(In order of importance)

  1. CLEAN: Become an expert at cleaning your mouth.  Have you noticed the amount of dental products in store shelves now?  We can customize a simple plan for you.  One that shows you what techniques, tools, and products are best for you.  Remember that technique is more important than products or tools.
  2. FIX: Totally fix your mouth so there are no gum infections, tartar, rough fillings, cavities or areas that trap plaque or food.   This will also make step #1 easier.
  3. HEALTH:  There is a huge relationship between your general health and periodontal disease, cavities, and cancer.  Improve your sleep, reduce stress, get more aerobic exercise, improve your nutrition and have regular check ups by your physician.
  4. ALIGN & PROTECT THE BITE:  Adjust your bite and/or use a night guard.  Adjusting the bite, or "equilibration", improves the way teeth come together.  This has a massive impact on the longevity of your teeth, gums and dental work.  Aligning and balancing car tires is a good analogy. The night guard adds another level of protection.
  5. MONITORING & MAINTENANCE: Increase the frequency of your preventive maintenance appointments ("cleanings" and check ups).  For most people, we recommend cleanings every 6 months and a check up yearly.  Higher risk patients may need cleanings every 2 months.
  6. SUGAR: Decrease or eliminate the amount and frequency of sugary foods & drinks.
The average patient that does everything on this page will save ten's of  thousands of dollars and countless hours of dental chair time over their lifetime.
